Tempe, AZ – Joseph Montgomery Killed in Fatal Car Crash at L-101 & University Dr
Tempe, AZ (January 14, 2021) – Authorities with the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) are investigating a crash that killed an Arizona State University police officer on Thursday morning.
Per initial reports, the officer was identified by ASU police as Ofc. Joseph Montgomery. According to officers from the Tempe Police Department, the crash happened around 8:30 a.m. near Loop 101 and University Drive. Video from a freeway camera in the area showed the University Drive off-ramp closed as a result of the crash, which happened on the northbound Loop 101.
Details surrounding the crash are unknown at this time, and it’s not known of Ofc. Montgomery was on duty at the time of the accident.
The investigation into the crash continues.
